how to stay consistent with goals

Introduction

I used to really struggle with being consistent.

Then I started focusing on my why and started being more present during the process.

You may not always be motivated to start. So stop waiting for the right moment or to feel a certain way and just start. Because the motivation is fleeting and it may never come.

Get Clear on Your “Why”

  • Define the purpose behind your goal
  • Having a strong “why” helps you push through hard days
  • Example: i wanted to tell a blog because I like telling stories about the places I’ve seen and the things I’ve gone through.

Start Small and Build Up

  • Write down your goals. With each goal write down all the tasks to complete it.
  • How small wins lead to long-term success improving 0.01% everyday is still an improvement upon the day before.
  • Example: Writing for 10 minutes a day vs. “write a book”
  • Example: Write 100 blog posts a year vs On Sunday I will create 2 outlines and Wednesday I will write 2 blogs a week,

Create a Routine

There is so much value in creating a solid routine even if its not a huge change.

A small step forward every day will still get you closer to your goals.

If your goal is to be a writer take 5-10 minutes out your day to write. It will help you practice more and have more writing in your portfolio.

Or maybe your goal like me, is to be a web developer. Find some short projects to do online, and do a project, some only take like 20 minutes. I’ve been doing it for a few months and I now have about 10 projects in my portfolio.

Sometimes its the little things that can help us to get ahead.

Section 4: Track Progress and Celebrate Milestones

I’m big on writing short to do lists but you can track your progress however you want.

And opt to reward yourself when you do well its like an incentive to staying on track.

I like to go to the movies to unwind after spending so much time working on my projects.

Section 5: Remove Friction and Distractions

Stop the excuses and remove the obstacles in your way before you even start.

I studying a lot for school. So i need my notebooks, my devices fully charged, no tv on, and peace and quiet

  • Make it easier to stay on track
  • Prepare in advance (e.g. workout clothes ready, to-do list made)
  • Limit distractions like phone, TV, or multitasking

Section 6: Don’t Wait for Motivation

Like I said before the motivation may never come so you have to count on yourself to power through.

You have to show up for your future self.

Were not always going to feel like it.

But its better to get started then regret not working on your goals.

Section 7: Be Kind to Yourself

  • Everyday you’re not going to feel like and that’s okay. You can away start over and pick up where you left off.
  • Consistency isn’t perfection; like this blog post for example I’m going to post it while it’s fresh in my mind and correct it along the way and throughout the year.
